Aunt Jemima is a well-known pancake, waffle mix, and breakfast food items brand name currently owned and operated by Quaker Oats. The brand’s character was first produced in 1889 for the marketing of a recently created pancake mix. Nancy Green, who was a slave at that time, was the first African-American women hired as a model, and she represented the brand until her death in 1923. Green became a national icon, as she modeled for the company wearing a head wrap that was tied around her head, later to be known as the Aunt Jemima head wrap.

These wraps are worn by millions of women around the world representing different cultures and ethnic backgrounds.
